Exciting news! We’ll begin our musical tour of the world with the premiere of a new work commissioned by the GVCB, La Fiesta Santa Cruz composed by Arizona’s own Mark Wolfram and made possible by a gift from Lester Weil in memory of our long time timpanist Peg Bowden. Grainger’s sprightly and tuneful Molly On The Shore is followed by the colorful portrayal of the Japanese Market Bridge Nihonbashi and then the ominously dynamic Kinryzan Temple in Askusa featuring thundering percussion and much more! Persis by James Hosay, a favorite of our band members, is thrilling and captivating. An excerpt from Finlandia honors our late saxophonist Ulla Rasilianen, then tap your feet to Valdrez March. Our 1st trombonist and noted composer James Parcel reworked the rollicking Espana by Chabrier for our band. Africa: Ceremony Dance and Ritual will take you to the land of the wild things with lots of sonic beauty and ecstatically frenzied music, the drama and musical imagery in this dynamic work are not to be missed! To end this concert on a lively and perky note we travel back to America and perform Big Band Spectacular, dancing in the aisle encouraged!
